ForbesNYT ‘Strands’ #108 Hints, Spangram And Answers For Wednesday, June 19th

Welcome back, oh thou Strandistas! Oh conquerors of the Strand! It’s my birthday so I’m going to keep today’s guide brief. Not that I have anything particularly exciting going on, mind you! I’m just a wee bit distracted. And I think I have some chores to get done so I can kick back and relax a little.

Let’s solve this Strands puzzle!

How To Play Strands

The New York Times’ Strands puzzle is a play on the classic word search with a new puzzle each day. The game presents you with a six-by-eight grid of letters. The game provides you with a clue/theme and you try to find words that match that theme. When you find a theme word, it will remain highlighted in blue. If you find incorrect words, you can build up to an optional hint.

Here’s an example of what this looks like when you find all the words:

You’ll also need to find a special word or combined called a spangram, pictured in yellow above. This tells you what the words have in common, serving as a more specific, unifying hint. The spangram links two opposite sides of the board. While the theme words will not be a proper name, the spangram can be a proper name. When you find the spangram, it will remain highlighted in yellow. As you can see above, MARINELIFE is the spangram, and describes the rest of the grid’s words, like SHARK and OCTOPUS.

In the following guide, I’ll attempt to help you solve the grid without having to use any of the game’s baked-in hints.

Strands still isn’t on the New York Times games app yet, but you can play it right here.

What Are Today’s Strands Answers?

Remember, spoilers—including the answers—ahead.

Today’s Strands spangram is . . .

SITCOMS

Here’s where the Spangram is on the grid:

Today’s Strands Clues & Answers

Before I give each of the answers and the entire grid, I’ll give an individual hint for each of the sitcoms included in today’s Strands:

  • College
  • The White House
  • Hospital
  • Enchanted
  • A Bar
  • Two White Guys And Two White Chicks

Spoilers ahead.

Here’s the full list of words:

  • COMMUNITY
  • VEEP
  • SCRUBS
  • BEWITCHED
  • CHEERS
  • FRIENDS

Today’s Strands Breakdown

Oddly, I found COMMUNITY before any other words despite never having really gotten into that show. Actually, most of these shows aren’t *my* sitcoms, though I’m familiar with each of them. I’ve never watched VEEP or SCRUBS. I watched a bit of BEWITCHED as a kid, but not much. CHEERS if fun, but I ended up watching a lot more Frasier in the long run. And I was definitely more of a Seinfeld guy than a FRIENDS guy. I did find the bottom half of this grid a little tricky, but I found the spangram right after COMMUNITY which made VEEP super easy.
