Destiny 2’s Titans Need Some Help, Badly

While there has always been a push and pull in terms of the balance of the three classes in Destiny 2, things seem to be tipping away from one class in particular in the Final Shape era of the game. That would be Titans, who seem like they have been a put at a distinct disadvantage to Warlocks and Hunters as of this expansion. What’s going on?

Raid Usefulness – Just look at the data. Only a tiny sliver of initial raid clears of Salvation’s Edge were with Titans. I believe only three Titans period beat it in the top 50 teams? The point is that they are not good enough at support like Warlocks and their (even nerfed) Wells, or DPS like Golden Gun Hunters. Once upon a time you always needed a bubble or you could multi-Thundercrash things to death, but those abilities have fallen far behind and Titans just do not have a significant role in this high end content anymore for the most part, and that needs to change.

Prismatic – Titans got the short end of the stick in a lot of ways when it came time to pick their skills and aspects for Prismatic. Warlock and Hunter seem like they have far better options with more synergy as opposed to Titan, which is missing some of its best aspects in favor of lesser ones. I don’t think Unbreakable should be there at all. Banner of War would have been far better than Drengr’s Lash. Diamond Lance got some buffs but is really only worth it with Lancecap. It just doesn’t really come together a lot of the time.

Exotic Class Items – I essentially just gave up on farming exotic class items for Titan as I simply could not put together an interesting combination or even one I wanted to hunt. Not to say there are zero good ones, but one issue is that so many are barrier-dependent and do not work with Thruster which is an auto-pick most of the time. The exotic choices here just don’t seem great for the most part.

This isn’t to say all Titan builds are bad or not fun this expansion. And I do think they got some cool things, like their new void greataxe super. Also, they have what might be the best new exotic armor piece in the expansion, Hazardous Propulsion, which shoots powerful rockets on thruster and buffs already absurdly good rocket sidearms. I am never taking that thing off.

But something is off here, and Titans are lagging behind Hunters and Warlocks in big ways, both in terms of Prismatic, but also their role in the game more generally.
