Today’s ‘Wordle’ #947 Hints And Clues For Sunday, January 21st

Sunday, lazy Sunday. Whatever will we do this laziest of days? I think I’m going to demo the wainscoting in my TV room and discover what lies beneath. The one section I’ve done so far revealed old termite damage that left the drywall a crumbly mess. I suspect that won’t be the only section with problems.

Fortunately, the damage didn’t appear to go into the beams so it may be as simple as attaching new drywall and then doing some texture and painting. That takes some time but it’s pretty easy, and when I’m done the TV room should look much brighter and less dated (though really I should call it the Dog Room since my three pups have basically made it their den).

If you’re looking for something to watch this lazy Sunday you should check out my streaming guide. There’s some good stuff out to watch this weekend!

Okay, Wordle time!

Wordle Bot Analysis

After each Wordle I solve I head over to the Wordle Bot homepage to see how my guessing game was.

A solid guessing game today for your humble narrator. SPINE didn’t do all that well, leaving me with just one yellow box and 116 remaining solutions, but HOARD cut that down to just one, which I came up with fairly quickly: NORTH for the win!

Today’s Score (Competitive Wordle)

Just yesterday I was complaining that I might never beat the Wordle Bot again now that its using TRACE as an opening guess. Today—just one measly day later—I proved myself wrong. I get 1 point for guessing in three and another for beating the Bot, who took four guesses today. 2 points! Huzzah!

Today’s Wordle Etymology

The word “north” comes from the Old English word “norf”, which has Proto-Germanic origins. The Proto-Germanic term is believed to be *nurtha-, which might have been derived from the Proto-Indo-European root *ner-, meaning “left”, as north is to the left when facing the rising sun. This reflects a method of orientation that is based on the direction of the sunrise, which is consistent across several cultures. The concept of the word “north” as a direction is inherently tied to the cardinal directional system, which has been a fundamental part of navigation and geography throughout human history.
