Welcome to another installment of Wordle, the game that can be as harrowing as any Elden Ring run if you are down to the final guess. Well, at least that’s how I felt today when I only got today’s word on my sixth guess. I have also been playing a lot of Elden Ring so the comparison just felt right.
I am very curious to see what people make of today’s word, as it’s a trickier one that will probably not occur to a lot of people without some pretty elaborate guessing or a specific background. We’ll see how it goes, however, and the answer lies below. But first…

Today’s Wordle #309 Answer And Hint
Alright, before we get any further, I will preface this with a big spoiler warning in case you have ended up on this answer page, or if you just want a hint instead. As for that hint? I would say that if you have a history in science, or were pretty good at the subject in school, you may have a leg up on the competition today.
And the answer is…
Inert
NYT
Inert!
Inert is what I think of when I think of like, noble gases or other science stuff. The official definition of inert is: “lacking the ability or strength to move,” so technically that could apply to me waking up in the morning every day.
As you can see, this was a very close call and a rare full six guess attempt for me. But I squeezed it out at the last minute, and even the NYT puzzle display is relieved, apparently. So, how did I get there?
I started with CRANE, my usual pick, and it took me way too long to think of a qualifying second word, which was ENTER, not ideal because it uses two Es, but at least it added a T to my RNE and it showed that the N was in the right spot. And then I just kind of started throwing out guesses I knew were wrong to narrow things down> UNTIE got me the I and from here I failed to realize I actually had all the letters already, as I forget the R existed at all. From there I did INTEL to confirm that the I was the vowel in the lead. Then I thought I had it in the back with INEPT, until I remembered I forgot the R from four guesses ago and then I got INERT. Phew, indeed.
