Welcome back to another edition of Wordle Wednesday! Each Wednesday we solve the Wordle, but first I give readers a bonus challenge in the form of a riddle, logic puzzle or brain teaser. I reveal the answer on Thursdays.
Here’s today’s challenge:
A man has 53 socks in his drawer: 21 identical blue, 15 identical black and 17 identical red. The lights are out and he is completely in the dark. How many socks must he take out to make 100 percent certain he has at least one pair of black socks?

Wordle Bot Analysis
After each Wordle I solve I head over to the Wordle Bot homepage to see how my guessing game was.
Another day of lucky guesses for yours truly. Dream wasn’t terrible, though it wasn’t particularly great. With just one green box and 82 words remaining, I had my work cut out for me.
For my second guess, I turned to one of my favorites and guessed hoist, which was pretty good this time, slashing 82 down to 9. Now I had an ‘E’ in green and a ‘T’ in green and a yellow ‘S’.
At this point I could think of quite a few words (though I didn’t come up with 9) all of which started with ‘S’. Not much strategy at this point, just a guess to see if I could at least narrow down my options. I was quite pleasantly surprised when spent cashed in as the Wordle!
Today’s Competitive Wordle Score
At long last—after many ties and losses—I beat the Bot who took four tries today. That’s 1 point for guessing in three and 1 point for destroying my nemesis for a total of 2 lovely wonderful points. Huzzah!
