Today’s Wordle #899 Hints, Clues And Answer For Tuesday, December 5th

It’s the end of an era, folks. Today is Wordle #899, the very last of the Wordle 800 series. Tomorrow, on Wordle Wednesday no less, the 900 series begins. Wordle 1000 comes on March 15th, the Ides of March. Beware!

Beyond that, today is a Tuesday like any other. We have just 20 days until Christmas, so get your shopping done soon. I’ve actually been halfway decent at getting my presents sorted ahead of time this year. Usually I’m Mr. Last Minute. I’ll just pat myself on the back for a second . . . .

Alright, let’s do this Wordle!

How To Solve Today’s Word

The Hint: Not an octogenarian.

The Clue: This word has two vowels in a row.

Wordle Bot Analysis

After each Wordle I solve I head over to the Wordle Bot homepage to see how my guessing game was.

Well this could have been worse! Though is there anything worse than the worst?

Ugh. Five guesses! I did not make great progress today!

Things started out badly with scare, which got me exactly zero green or yellow boxes and left me with a whopping 328 possible solutions remaining.

Boink—a good second guess if you already used S, A and E—narrowed that to just 10 words and gave me boxes in green. Still, 10 is a tough number to whittle down especially when so many of the words remaining are similar. I went with mount, which gave me my second vowel. Now I had a grey box followed by OUN and another grey box.

The trick here was the remaining words included hound, pound, wound, found, young and so forth. Too many similar words. I almost went with young just because it was different than the rest of the remaining possibilities I could think of, but decided I needed to narrow my options down more before guessing. Poofy took care of three of the letters, and made the final answer obvious. Huzzah?

Today’s Competitive Wordle Score

Not a great day. I get -1 for guessing in five and -1 for losing to the Wordle Bot, who only took three guesses today. -2 total. Lame!

Today’s Wordle Etymology

The word “young” has its origins in the Old English language. It can be traced back to the Old English word “geong,” which was used to describe someone who was in the early stage of life or someone of a youthful age. The word “geong” is related to the Old High German word “jung,” the Old Norse word “ungR,” and the Gothic word “juggs,” all of which had similar meanings.

Over time, the word “geong” evolved into the Middle English word “yong,” and eventually, it became the modern English word “young.” The basic meaning of the word has remained consistent throughout its history, referring to someone or something in the early stage of life or development, or possessing the qualities associated with youth.
