It’s a lovely spring day and a perfect time to be outside, possibly getting some of those outdoor chores done, or on a lovely stroll through the park or a hike in the forest. Since it is so lovely, and I have to do all of the above, I’ll make this preamble brief.

How To Play Strands
The New York Times’ Strands puzzle is a play on the classic word search. It’s in beta for now, which means it’ll only stick around if enough people play it every day.
There’s a new game of Strands to play every day. The game will present you with a six by eight grid of letters. The aim is to find a group of words that have something in common, and you’ll get a clue as to what that theme is. When you find a theme word, it will remain highlighted in blue.
You’ll also need to find a special word called a spangram. This tells you what the words have in common. The spangram links two opposite sides of the board. While the theme words will not be a proper name, the spangram can be a proper name. When you find the spangram, it will remain highlighted in yellow.

Today was another fairly easy and straightforward Strands, but I did find a couple of these words tricky. You’ll want to think of tools associated with lawn and garden care, which is timely given it’s finally spring and everyone is out doing yardwork.

Today’s Strands Breakdown
I saw SHOVEL and TROWEL almost instantly today. The hint / theme for today’s Strands was, once again, basically a dead giveaway. There’s not much clever about “tools” as a hint for, well, tools. I only really got hung up on EDGER and TRIMMER, which had me stumped for a bit (I kept seeing GREED) but everything else, including the spangram, was pretty much a breeze. Also a reminder that I need to go do a bunch of yardwork!
