New Google Nest Smart Home Hardware Set For Launch Next Month

Google’s long overdue smart home refresh finally has a date… 1st October.

The search giant has stated that it will be sharing more on “Gemini coming to Google Home,” via a teaser on X.

This all but locks in the start of its early access rollout for the AI-powered assistant that’s set to replace Google Assistant across Nest and Google Home devices.

We first heard about the evolution of Google’s smart home assistant back in May at I/O 2025, when Google said it would bake its AI model into the Home APIs developers use for their apps and devices.

Last month, Gemini for Home was officially revealed as a full-on replacement for Google Assistant on Nest speakers and displays.

Gemini for Home essentially kills the Google Assistant and should mean more natural language controls, smarter routines, and proactive automation suggestions across the smart home, from summarizing what your security cameras spotted while you were away to piecing together a bedtime story on the fly.

Some users already had a taste through public preview tests on Nest Audio and Nest Mini speakers, but 1st October is seemingly when things will get properly official.

And the teaser suggests that there should be new hardware to come along for the Gemini Home ride.

Google hasn’t refreshed its Nest line in years, and the October teaser conveniently includes a Nest Cam image.

It looks almost identical to existing kit, but leaks last week pointed to a new third-gen Indoor and Outdoor Nest Cam duo, plus a wired Nest Doorbell, all purportedly jumping to 2K HDR resolution and picking up Gemini smarts for AI-powered alerts and daily video summaries.

There’s also the possibility of a new Nest smart speaker too. First spotted during the Pixel 10 launch and later leaked along with the new cameras, the compact Gemini speaker looks like a grown-up Nest Mini, but is said to boast 360-degree audio, sound sensing for smoke alarms or glass breaks, and Gemini Live baked in for chat-style conversations.

All of this will reportedly sit under a new subscription model too, with Google Home Premium replacing Nest Aware. Free and paid tiers are expected, though pricing is still a question mark.

With Amazon already pushing Alexa into the generative AI era with Alexa Plus, and Apple rumored to have its own Siri overhaul coming, Google badly needs this reboot.

And it now looks like the moment it finally gets back in the smart home fight is nearly upon us; not just with a smarter assistant, but with the fresh Nest hardware to match.
